Bergson and Freedom; On Extinction
An interview with Alexandre Lefebvre and Nils F. Schott; an event with Ben Ware
Dear all,
I cannot think of anything to see by way of a preamble, so let’s just jump straight in!
Your Sunday Read
“Freedom Regained: Henri Bergson at the Collège de France”
a conversation with Alexandre Lefebvre and Nils F. Schott
On the occasion of an exciting new Henri Bergson book, “Freedom: Lectures at the Collège de France, 1904-1905” (Bloomsbury, 2024), this conversation explores the book’s main themes, their relevance today, and how they fit into Bergson’s wider philosophy. You can read it here.
Monday Event: 11am PT/2pm ET/7pm UK/8pm CET
“On Extinction”
Ben Ware in conversation with Kate Warlow-Corcoran
How might we imagine a future that is not simply an extension of the blighted present?
In this event, Ben Ware will argue that as we face ‘the end of all things’, we must face our apocalyptic future without flinching. In fact, extinction is the very lens through which we should examine our current reality.
Through a philosophical and psychoanalytic critique of our damaged times, engaging with contemporary debates such as anti-natalism, de-extinction, and the nature of modern eco-activism, Ware will argue that we can only consider our collective end by treating it as a starting point.
